The stupid! It burns!

There seems to be strong case of 'The Stupid' hitting a bunch of fandoms lately.

Like in the Harry Potter fandom where a fan stated they would never read another book again because there's no way it would be as good as HP. Umm... I get that they like HP but liking it so much you'd never read another book again for the rest of your life?! Yes, my mind boggled; especially when I saw there were some people actually agreeing. If they're that confident that HP really is the best book out there, why don't they read other series to prove they're right? I think they're scared they'd end up liking a different series better and don't want to be proved wrong.

Then over in the TRC fandom, fans are now coming up with a theory that TRC!Syaoran is the son of CCS!Syaoran and CCS!Sakura... O_o ...I'd never understand why some fans are so desperate to link TRC!Syaoran with CCS. I mean you don't find fans of other CLAMP series claiming that the TRC characters are the same/linked to the originals. I don't think those Syaoran/CCS fans know the meaning of AU.

And finally there's the CCS fandom. Okay, I admit that this one is my fault since after [livejournal.com profile] jlarinda posted a link to a really stupid CCS forum I decided to go take a peek at the place. The CCS fandom will never stop amazing me at how stupid they are. It's been years since that series has been completed and yet there's still so many fans that don't get that Eriol is the same age as Fujitaka and that Eriol/Tomoyo has a lot bigger age-gap than Eriol/Kaho. I mean Eriol = Fujitaka's age (early 40s probably), Tomoyo = Sakura's age (10), and Kaho = 20-something. Do the math idiots, do the math.

You don't even have to read. Just pop in DVD's of Avatar, stupid HP fans, and see that other children series can be just as good, or hell, better. *pretends not to have a bias*

Then over in the TRC fandom, fans are now coming up with a theory that TRC!Syaoran is the son of CCS!Syaoran and CCS!Sakura...
....the fuck? Can't they just wish that Sakura and Syaoran would show up in xXxHOLiC like normal fans?

I don't get people pairing up Tomoyo and Eriol at all. By all means do it if you like it, but not because OMG!Kahoisapaedo!!11! Terada IS a paedo, Kaho just happens to fancy a guy who looks 10, but isn't. She would be dodgy if it were real life, I think, but in CCS, no. There's no excuse for Terada though (IMHO)

Meh. All fandom is stupid. The ammount of stupid people and their dumb theories, and stuff just breaks my brain. I stay as far away from fandom as I can :O;; It can get messy ._.

Thus my current attempt to back away from the CLAMP fandom... slowly. Like one would from a bear.
I think this is just one of those things about fandoms... when they've overanalyzed everything else, they get into crazy theories, because they're impatient. Or when things that seem or are pretty spelled out don't fit with their ideas, they decide to ignore them completely. The Eriol/Kaho thing is just one of many in CLAMP fandom.
The HP fandom, as you pointed out, is the perfect example. I understand completely about people coming up with pretty much ridiculous theories, ideas, spending way too much time on something that was fiction. (Mugglenet - I'm looking in your direction). Then you get those people who are like "HP is the best. Its better than all other books that have existed... ever. And here's why." Of course, disagreeing with them means you're a) decapitated, b) tarred and feathered, c) run out on a rail, d) burned at the stake, or e) all of the above. Just because you have your own opinion.
Of course, I won't get into the post-LotR films fandom, or say, the SW fandom of doom. Those are just sticky pots no one wants that much to do with anymore.

Smart move in trying to back away from the CLAMP fandom. The lesser known series aren't too bad in terms of fans but the big ones like TRC and CCS is where the problem is.

I don't mind crazy theories but I think whatever theory you come up with you should have some canon evidence to back it. The (crazy) Syaoran fans come up with theories by completely ignoring canon.
