yaoi > het

D'oh, not again. Today, I see covers of mangas posted to [livejournal.com profile] free_manga and come so close to downloading the series when I take another look at the covers and realize the uke is really a girl and immediately lost interest. And this hasn't been the first time its happened.

It's not that I don't like het, it's just that cheesy shoujo romances bores me to death (especially when it's 23 volumes long like a certain series that will remain nameless). It's not cute. At least with yaoi, I get porn out of it even if the story sucks.

For me, unless it's really fantastically written, I'm not interested in stand alone romances. I want a series that has strong romantic overtones and exploration of characters and relationships along with a plot. Which is why I tend to like CLAMP, they write romances along with other types of relationships in plots that I get behind a lot.

IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT FRUITS BASKET CAN I SAY THAT IT'S THE TYPE OF SHOUJO I HATE AND MAKES ME WANT TO PULL MY HAIR OUT.

No really what Natsuki Takaya thinking when she wrote the ending for Shigure/Akito?

I'll stop wanking. But I loved this series then I grew to HATE it and the bitterness hasn't faded. D:

Haha, yes I was referring to Fruits Basket. I started out liking it fine but then 23 volumes. That's longer than things like X and CCS! Even TRC only just finished its 22nd volume and is suppose to only be 28 volumes when it's done.

I am also bitter about how Yuki/Tohru didn't happen and hated how Kyou/Tohru DID happen in a sense that I think the development sucked and ruined both characters for me and think Machi or whatever her name was was just there so Yuki could get a girl. The only pairing I ended up liking was Haru/Rin. Which caused me some pain because I initially like Yuki/Haru better.

Actually I like shonen mangas over shojo, and I like no pairings over lots of canon ones. Go figure : )

Haru/Rin was really the only canon pairing I ended up liking but even then I was bitter they didn't get enough screen time compared to some other couples.

Ayame/Mine is the pairing that really drove me crazy. Mainly because Ayame seemed so gay and I had Mine pegged as a lesbian. I thought they were really great together as best friends and then at the end it's like they were just thrown together in an attempt to pair everyone up (I also hated how everyone except two characters ended up with someone because hey, some people like being alone!).

That's the type I like best too. Shounen series with few to no canon pairings. ^__^

[identity profile] a-white-rain.livejournal.com 2007-11-23 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
The ending was just terrible LETS PAIR EVERYONE UP HAPPILY. A bit like CCS... Only CCS didn't have dark overtones and the pairings were all built up.

CCS also showed different types of relationships/love, which is another thing that annoyed me.

Every pairing in Fruits Basket was a het pairing, which I find ridiculous since you had a few characters who were into their late 20s who could not touch females (until the end of the series). By that point you'd think that at least someone would have realized they could have had a healthy relationship with another male.

I didn't much care about most of the older cast, but I remember a trio of older characters who seemed really really gay to me. But I'm not sure how the manga-ka feels about gay relationships in general.

Try Hana Kimi or FY.

The guy who thought main female character is a guy and fell in love with her err... him is cute. Also the gay splat over series.

FY, I like Genbu kaiden than Miaka.

Another plug for Hana Kimi. I have the whole scanlated series on disk if you want it, Rekall.

(Loves Fruit Basket, but hasn't finished reading it yet 'cause I got distracted by Haru/Kyo, Yuki/Kyo and Kyo/Yuki fan fiction.)

I could have sworn I replied to this...

FY, I've been meaning to read for a while but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I hadn't heard of Hana Kimi before so I'll check it out.
