Why so serious?

By some sheer dumb luck I managed to see the Dark Knight this afternoon.

It's as awesome as everyone says it is! XD

Various critics have been saying it deserves some Oscar nominations and I gotta say I agree. I know it's a comic book movie but the plot and the acting is just really well done.

And Joker? It's no joke that Heath Ledger did such an amazing job in the role. He was really am amazing.

Speaking of Joker, I know he got left alive at the end of the film which met they probably original planned on bringing him back but I really hope they don't. I really don't want to see anyone else cast in the role of this current series (if then years from now they decide to re-do the series again or if they want to do a new Batman cartoon, that's a different story). I really loved the part when he was dressed up as a nurse and then when he was walking away from the hospital it didn't explode like he expected it would. &hearts

I almost jumped for joy when Rachel died. Seriously. I came so close to yelling out 'WOOHOO!' \o/

She's not as annoying in this one, the lack of Katie Holmes is a big improvement for the character, but really, Katie killed any love for the character in the first movie. It's a pity that the current actress wasn't in the role for Batman Begins because she's really a lot better.

The Two-Face make-up really creeped me out, especially when I first saw it. It was really well down though. This story of Two-Face/Harvey Dent is a lot better than the one that was originally in Batman Forever. I'm kinda sad that he died in the end since I think they could have shown more of his fall into madness in another movie but it was some nice closure. Aaron Eckhart did a really great job.

I was so surprised that Scarecrow was in the movie as a cameo. I loved the job that Cillian Murphy did in the first movie and it was really nice seeing him again.

And this is the part where I start praying that Talia al Ghul is in the next film. She was always one of my favourite characters but she's never made it into any of the films thus far.

It was a very, very cool movie. I knew essentially nothing about Batman before I saw it, I hadn't seen any other movies or read the comics or anything, but I was very impressed. Heath Ledger's performance was just incredible.

Oh god this role has made Heath Ledger a fucking legend. ;o; ♥

And they could still pull a gotcha and have Harvey Dent alive, I think, if they did it well enough?

On a thematic level, I absolutely love the whole 'balancing freedom with safety' theme running through the movie- how so many of the civilians are willing to kill the boat of convicts for their own safety (yet in the end they don't) and the convicts actually decide to let the civilians live, and how Fox used the sonar system and then destroyed it because it was just too much power. Very post-9-11.

Actually one of my first thoughts as I left the theatre was wondering if Harvey Dent was really dead. For all we know it was a cover-up designed to protect his image.

My Batman love is also fairly recent. The first two movies freaked me out as a child so I never really got into it until a few years ago. My brother liked Batman though so I'd hear various stuff from him when we were growing up.

Since you like this movie I recommend Batman Begins. The older movies are good too (except for Batman & Robin) but they follow a different storyline and have no connection to the current movies.
