'illegal' is such a hard word to memorize!
I think it's time I stopped following ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
fanficrants (again).
The comm can be hilarious at times when you get people ranting about things like: "OMG HIS EYES ARE FORREST GREEN, NOT GREEN!" and "learn 2 spellchek! words like 'colour' 'realise' and 'centre' are MISSPELLED!"
But other times I feel like I'm going to break my eyes from rolling them so much.
Right now, it's people implying that publishing fanfics is A-OKAY!
Umm... no. Not unless the work you're ripping off is in the public domain. Because there are little things called copyright laws so not only do you risk a lawsuit but also you risk the copyright owner going HULK! SMASH! on all fanfics for that particular fandom.
And all those authorized novels of a particular series (ex. Star Wars) is not the same thing as publishing fanfics. They're done by professional authors who were commissioned to write those novels. They have rules that they have to follow when writing, they can't just do whatever they want.
