I don't get it.

The CLAMP fandom always had this obsession with knowing why Syaoran went back to Hong Kong at the end of CCS. They're convince that there's some special reason why he left, while at the same time over looking simple reasons, like perhaps his parents weren't happy with allowing their ten-year-old son to live alone in another country for the rest of his life.

Even if Syaoran did have to return to Hong Kong for an important save-the-world reason, wouldn't Sakura know or even go with him? She's the strongest magician in the world and could easily handle any problem better than Syaoran.

Besides it's a common trope in shoujo for the main couple to experience some sort of "crisis" like that at the end of the series. Either the guy/girl almost leaves but it's avoided at the last moment or he/she does leave and at the very end they're reunited. It's a bit annoying that many decent series end the same way.

I just don't get why there has to be a special reason for Syaoran's return to Hong Kong.

Don't recall if this was in manga, but I know in the anime, his parents wanted him to come home because he's a kid and they wanted him back during the mid point of the series. He chose to stay until the cards were under control. So you know. And I believe in one version he said he needed to put things in order.

I think it's because he's a boy and he's not the one who saved the world, it was Sakura. But that breaks people's brains so they must make him a ~*~man~*~ and save the world while holding out for his woman.

I'm pretty sure in the manga, he's going to leave after the cards were all gathered up but then he decided to stay when Eriol transfered into their class. It's been a while since I've read CCS so I can't say for certain if that happens or not.

You're right o/ He stays because of the weird stuff Eriol does, supposedly, although the way he says it and all makes it look like he just does it 'cause Eriol makes him jealous. He does say later, when Sakura goes give him Kaho's present from England, that he stayed that time because of the weird events happening. E-EITHER WAY it's Eriol's fault |Db

I never understood what the big deal was, either. I didn't even wonder why it was, I just figured CLAMP needed some excuse for him to leave and come back more grown-up; it's much easier to believe they'll be "together forever" if he's a teenager and not a little boy, is still just as in love with Sakura as he was when he was little even though they haven't met each other in years (same for her) and he has solved all issues with his family, etc and is now allowed to stay in Tomoeda for the rest of his life.

It's probably because it's never just some normal reason. Normal reasons don't have on tv/inbooks/manga.

Plus, normal is boring. XDD

Yeah, I always figured the same thing, that CLAMP just needed an excuse for him to leave and return a bit more grown-up. It's cute that they're still so in love with each other even though they spend so many years apart.
