Tiger and Bunny - Recent Thoughts

How adorable is Kaede? She looked so happy when Kotetsu promised he would be home for good. It wasn't a surprise that she's a NEXT. I like her power since it's similar to Rogue's but it doesn't come with the drawbacks that Rogue has.

So finally some of fan theories were confirmed. Most notably that Jake wasn't the one who killed Barnaby's parents and that someone is fucking with Barnaby's memories. I still think Maverick is the one behind everything since he's the only one who has had an opportunity to mess with Barnaby's memories.

One theory I disagree with is that Barnaby is a not human and is really a special prototype robot his parents had been working on, which they were killed over. The main reason why I disagree with it is because we saw Barnaby as a teen in one of the flashbacks. Plus it would be very difficult to hide something like that for 21 years. At some point someone is going to start asking questions on why this person isn't changing.

I think the reason why Barnaby's parents were killed was they were working on something Ouroboros wanted which probably involved running tests on Barnaby's powers. Barnaby's parents refused since they didn't want to jeopardize their son's safety and they were killed because of it.

Speaking of Barnaby, his angst tastes like candy. I love seeing him break. I do want everything to work out for him in the end though. I'm more convinced then ever that Barnaby needs to quit too and move in with Kotetsu and his family. I don't care if they're a couple (because that's not going to happen in canon, roommates on the other hand...). I think Barnaby needs a family like that since he never properly dealt with a lot of his emotional issues. He needs a stable life for a change and that's not going to happen if he remains in Sternbild, especially without Kotetsu by his side. It's not like Barnaby has any other friends to rely on. He certainly doesn't seem that close to the other heroes.

Theory time! I think Maverick/Ouroboros is behind Kotetsu's power lost. Kotetsu was hired to be Barnaby's partner to basically make Barnaby look good. But now that Barnaby is 'King of Heroes', and can seemingly handle things on his own, Kotetsu is not needed but they can't outright fire him because it would be bad for business. Kotetsu would just go to a competing company and fans would rally around him because they would think that Kotetsu was got screwed.

So I'm thinking that they forced a situation where Kotetsu willingly quits. They can't threaten Kaede because she's too far away. So they somehow make his powers disappear (maybe that's what Barnaby's parents were working on so that their son could be normal) and without powers, Kotetsu can't be a hero.

It also won't surprise me if they were behind Legend's decline of powers too in an attempt to get him out of the way to make room for younger heroes. If that's the case, I think Lunatic is inadvertently going to play a big role in destroying Ouroboros/Maverick. Which is ironic since Lunatic wouldn't even exist if Legend never lost his powers.

I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be following an ongoing show close enough to have discussions like this! :D

Yes yes yes to this and everything. But mostly that paragraph. I think Barnaby really, really needs to be around nice people whose Hidden Agendas (tm), if they have any, don't really involve him. The other heroes are nice enough, but they have their own issues and, like you said, the only one of them he's actually close to is Kotetsu. And if Kotetsu is gone, then he is absolutely fucked for emotional support. I think the best-case scenario right now, for their mental health, would be for both of them to quit & go live with Kotetsu's mom and Kaede. They'll probably go back to the other heroes (if not Hero TV) in the end, but honestly this would be the healthiest thing they could do for themselves right now.

. . . Also I really just want to see a) Kaede's reaction to her dad being Wild Tiger and then living with Barnaby, b) Kotetsu & Barnaby being ROOMMATES OF AWESOME. I kind of have a thing about people being epic roommates, okay.

(And oh yes is his angst ever candy. Nom nom nom.)

I think, if Kotetsu does end up getting his powers back, Kaede and her copy-other-NEXTs'-powers power will have something to do with it. Maybe her + Barnaby's parents' work will shed some new light on Kotetsu's condition, maybe she'll copy his powers again and figure out something's wrong/how to fix it. Her NEXT powers could be just for use in for Final Battle (dramatic music) with Ouroboros, but I think the writers wouldn't be pushing that plot element so hard right now if it weren't relevant to Kotetsu's power loss.

Barnaby's parents were probably killed because they were working on something Ouroboros didn't want anyone looking into. I don't think they would have been killed so dramatically if they were just not doing something Ouroboros wanted; it would make more sense to keep them alive and put pressure on them by threatening something they cared about that wasn't essential to the project. (Like Barnaby, say.) I don't think such a big, well-organized & well-hidden crime syndicate would be able to keep in business if they just went around killing people who could still be useful.

Final opinion/discussion point: Yes, Kaede = WAY ADORABLE. <3

I still think it's possible that Kotetsu has gained another power and just doesn't know it. I went back and re-watched the end of episode 17 just now. Right before Kotetsu gets on the train, he touches Kaede's head and then as the train is leaving, Kaede uses a levitation-type power.

If Kaede's power is to copy the power of the last NEXT she touched, she should have had the Hundred Power (like she had in Ep 18), not levitation.
