Zoo Pictures - Round 2

There's more this time since Photobucket was cooperating more.

First up the mighty kings of the jungle, the lion!

We ended up walking past the lions a lot which is why I ended up with a lot of pics. There's only the 4 lions, two male and two female and yes the one male never did wake up the entire time we're there, lol. What was going on in those two close ups with the one female is that seperating their area from the people is a trench and down there something was making a noise that caught her attention. We ended up passing by at the right time so we hurried up to her and I snapped a few pictures before she wandered off and rejoined the other female on the rocks.

Here's a huge tip for any lurkers out there planning on visiting the Toronto Zoo anytime soon. Go see the Cheetah during the Meet the Zookeeper time, usually around 1pm. The Cheetah pen is huge and there is only one cheetah in there at a time because they're trying to recreate their living area so that they will have more success at breeding (all the cheetahs use to be in the main pen together and things were fine but they discovered that they would breed easier if seperated so all the cheetahs are on a rotating bases). If you go during the zookeeper time he'll feed her to get her out. Even then you have to be quick if you want pictures. These are all I could get of her before she took her food and hid again.

Some sort of primate and her baby.

Ostrichs. The female is really shy so I only got one pic of her. The male on the other hand is really friendly and will wander up to anyone he sees.

These are another of those lucky shots of being in the right place at the right time. Both lynxs were right near the glass while I took these pics and a few seconds later both ended up taking off.

The Hyenas really didn't do anything besides sleep and because of the way their pen is set up it was hard getting shots of them. These were the two best of the four pictures I got.

More of the Giraffe. They actually have 3 giraffes at the zoo but for some reason only the male was out. I'm guessing the male is away from the females at the moment to prevent any pregnancies since one of their females is getting pretty old (she's 23, which is the oldest living one around here) because normally all three are out together.

This is one of the rare times I've been to the zoo where the gorillas have been outside. They only go out on nice, warm days and normally I go too early in the year when they're still inside. The baby is actually a year old but he's still so tiny. And the big male silver back was only hanging out in the back so he was hard to get, which is why I only have one bad picture of him.

This is a peacock on the roof of the building we were in (Note: A lot of the animals have been climatized to live outdoors all year around but with some animals they can't do that there are various buildings throughout the zoo which have the climate of their native country). His tail is actually blocking the door so we had to go out another door. It amused me to see him up there so I snapped his picture.

This is a goose from Egypt. He wouldn't stop cleaning himself so this is the best I could do. The only reason I took his picture and am showing you guys anyway is because he's from Egypt and seeing him made me think of Atemu, hehe. ^^

Another Kudu. I forgot to put this pic with the other set from group 1 of pictures since I took this on the opposite side of their area.

Some sort of African bird.

And that's all for now. There's still a lot more to go. I almost filled an entire memory card.

I love peacocks... he's gorgeous :)

The only thing I saw in the lions pic was, well... balls *^^*

My first guess on the mystery primates would be baboon, though the more I think of it the more unsure I get.

Clueless on the stork thing LOL

more cute pics! Hyenas are nocturnal so good luck getting them to wake up, lol. Talking about sleeping all the time... zoos in AL are a joke because it's so hot most of the animals get really, really lazy. I feel sorry for the polar bears, esp; last time I was there they let people toss him peanuts, but he was so lazy he'd just lay there in his pool and only eat the ones he could catch. Then when he was done he'd wave his paw until ppl threw more on top of him, and so on.

Now I want to go to the zoo...

Cool pics.
Well your lions and tigers pics made me think of when I went to zoo long time ago. It's open zoo that you have to drive car into animals areas and well my uncle wanted to pee, he opened the van door and got to pee in tigers area lol

You pervert! :P

I love the peacock too. I was standing in front of the door, watching him when he jumped up onto the roof so I hurried out the other door to get his picture. ^__^

Love the icon wifey. ^_~

It's not just AL, I've been plenty of times to zoos were all the animals did was sleep. A lot the other day was sleeping, which is partly why we were there so long, we went back to look at various animals who had been asleep earlier in the day.
