CLAMP

So it's announced that CLAMP will have a new manga coming out in 2009. Which is great, new CLAMP series, woohoo... but what about X and Gouhou Drug? CLAMP has strongly implied that they'd at least be returning to GD after TRC/Holic and I'm going to be sad if that's not the case. I would much rather have GD and X continued instead of a new series. Even with TRC/Holic heading towards the end it's still going to be at least next year until they're finished.

I at least hope it's more like their serious/angsty stuff. Fun fluff/crack is fine for shorter series but it gets tiring after a while for long ones *points to the first half of TRC as a perfect example*.

Getting releases the same time as Japan sounds interesting but it always makes me nervous when dealing with translating companies I know nothing about. I'm picky which is why I prefer scanlations since the scanlation groups (most of them at least) actually know what fans want instead of the companies who like to tell us what we want *cough* Viz *cough*. Really just give me honorifics and I'm happy. Despite what Viz thinks, honorifics are important since they define characters so well. Using the English equivalent doesn't cut it since it simply sounds so awkward.

My fingers are crossed that either X or GD will be their 'main' story after TRC/Holic and this new one and Kobato remain in the background (like Holic and Kobato currently are). After doing two weekly series and one monthly, 3 monthly series or 2 monthly and 1 weekly would seem like a vacation.

Well my language also has words that can be equivalent as -san and -sama but I do want Japanese honorifics more. Since there is nothing equal to -chan and -kun.

Also the publisher who got most of CLAMP's licenses here releases CLAMP's works in snail's speed ;_;

I think I'm going to have to go look through some Dark Horse manga to see what kind of publisher they are (since the only thing I ever read from them was The Ring...). I like the idea of simultaneous releases just because I like to have physical books to read. And if the translation's too bad, there will probably be fan translations as well, right?

As to the new vs. X and Legal Drug, I'm going to wait to see what the new series is going to be about. I'd also prefer a darker series (we already have Kobato. for fluff central).

Dark Horse has been around for a while. But I wouldn't say that they've released anything really interesting, except for a few titles such as Appleseed, Berserk, Ghost in the Shell, Hellsing, Oh!My Goddess, and You're Under Arrest. Mostly old school stuff.

I was actually waiting for an announcement like this. :| Hmmph. I think CLAMP really needs something NEW under their belt, as much as a relief it would be if they could bloody finish Gouhou and X. I don't think they would toss them completely to the wayside, though, so I'm going to hope your theory about them making X or Gouhou their main focus, while the new one would be given less attention.
