Tsubasa: Resivoire Chronicle

I decided to weight in on the current WTF CLAMP YOUR CURRENT STASH OF CRACK IS BAD!!! events in TRC.

I can't remember the chapter number but it's the chapter that's out this week. So don't click if you don't want to know.

For those who aren't in the fandom but are curious what happened. It turns out that TRC!Syaoran is the son of CCS!Sakura and CCS!Syaoran (and no, Syaoran is not his real name). Oh, yes and he's in love with a version of his mother from another world.

Personally I find the entire thing hilarious, lol. I love the FUCK YOU CLAMP! YOU RUINED MY LIFE! comments that fans have been posting. I've been anxiously refreshing my flist hoping that it'll show up on on [livejournal.com profile] clamp_rants with lots of more bitching. *glee*

Ignoring my amusement and getting right down to the plot development, I'm kinda disappointed in CLAMP. I don't mind the WTF INCEST! because I'm use to weird things from them (and from fandom in general). I'm mostly disappointed in that I don't think they did a good job handling the new plot twist. What I mean is, the stuff with clone!Syaoran was great! We knew that there was something off with that Syaoran but no one figured out that he was a clone. Despite our thoughts that there was something wrong with C!Syaoran we still thought he was the real one. We didn't get that with TRC!Syaoran and that's where my disappointment is.

TRC!Syaoran looks and acts exactly like CCS!Syaoran. I really would have liked hints somewhere along the way that indicated that he wasn't Syaoran but Syaoran's son without making it obvious. If you go back to the early volumes of TRC, you can see signs there that the Syaoran there was a clone. But if you go back and re-read between Acid Tokyo and now I doubt you'd find many signs that Syaoran wasn't Syaoran.

At least we now know why everyone was calling him "Syaoran" when he first showed up when it made more sense to call the clone "Syaoran".

I really should catch up with TRC, but I'm just... not so much interested anymore.

CCS!Syaoran and CCS!Sakura being R!Syaoran-who-is-not-Syaoran's parents... That's fine, I guess. But still of the WTF category.

I'm mostly worried about what they'll do to poor Watanuki. T_T

I'm worried about Watanuki too. And I'm worried about who his parents are since they're dead. Given his connection to TRC!Syaoran, it could be Sakura and Syaoran or it could be Eriol and Kaho or someone else close to S/S.

I don't like it when CLAMP kills characters I like after the story ends. If they're going to die, I'd rather see it happen in the story. It sucks thinking your favourite characters are living a happy life only to have CLAMP later say LULZ THEY R DED!!!

Yeah. I was thinking that it was Kaho and Eriol, as well. And that would suck so badly.

Neither do I. I would be so upset if I found out any of the CCS characters were dead. That's the one HAPPY series they have, really, except Suki, and maybe Wish.

Frued would have a field day with this~

I'm really quite WTF over this, since it was so out of the blue and so random, and apparently TRC!Syaoran has no genes from his mother and is just a random asexual budding off of his father. But yeah, I agree with you on that my main disappointment is that it was so out of the blue and there was /no/ lead up or possible hints at all.

[identity profile] rekallthegreat.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, out of the blue and random is the part I dislike. It would have been nice if they gave some sort of sign that R!Syaoran was their son.

???

When R!Syaoran first showed up they were calling him "Syaoran" with the quotation marks round his name. As someone who liked R!Syaoran better than Clow!Syaoran it was always kinda annoying. I can't remember when they stopped doing that.

Around the end of Nihon.

I thought it was around then but I wanted to deny that it went on for so long.

Should I get any hope up for F_W?

I've thought about it but I decided to wait and see what happens after the actual chapter comes out (which should be later today).

I think it's because they were aiming for the BIG SHOCK OMGWTFBBQ. Like with Fye! Everybody knew he was fucked up, that he was hiding stuff, etc. But there wasn't a single clue about his true name or his twin. There were just clues towards his self-hatred and the fact that he knew everything.

If you think about it, the quotation marks alone are a HUGE hint about Syaoran's true name not being that one |D;;; It's just that with that alone, it was hard to imagine something this insane. 'Cause the yumemi abilities, the techniques he uses when fighting and the connection to Clow could all be brushed off as simply the AU connection.

[identity profile] rekallthegreat.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I started thinking after I posted that the quotation marks around his name was a huge hint. I guess I just wanted more clues than that. Minor stuff that you wouldn't pick up on the first time through but when you re-read you'd go "oh yeahhhhh!'

Like remember when Seishirou said Syaoran was like his father? No one picked up on that because Seishirou has no connection to CCS. I think it would have been better if (for example) Tomoyo made that comment because we've seen before that she can communicate with the other Tomoyos through dreams. Or if Clow-ou in a flashback had made a comment like that or if Yuuko had said something.

[identity profile] ashura-sama.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't necessarily agree on a couple of things concerning Shaoran's name, mainly the meaning of the quotation marks (which I'm not sure about) and what exactly Yuuko said is not his true name (by the way, "true name" written as in Kurogane's true name -- coming from a family of mystics, Shaoran might very well have one despite having been born these days).

My main gripe with the whole thing is that it gives what I consider to be a stupid start to Shaoran's story. And man do I fear what could happen to Holic now. ¬¬
