Skip Beat!

Okay, I'll admit I'm not a big fan of traditional shoujo stories where it takes 20+ volumes for the two main characters to fall in love. I get fed up and start wanting to hit those two characters with a clue bat so that they'd realize that yes, they are in love and no, the world is not going to fall apart because they're in love.

Regardless of this, I decided to read Skip Beat! since the premise seemed interesting enough since it was about a girl who wants to get revenge on her ex and I'm all for girls who want to get revenge upon shitty guys.

I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. It's ridiculously good. I even spent a lot of the early chapters crying over how so many people were simply using Kyoko (I think I scared anyone who saw me reading it, lol).

I do have some issues with it though.

1. I often mistake Kyoko for a boy. Even when she's wearing a dress/skirt I think she's just dressed in drag. It's her hair. The way it's normally styled reminds me of your typical uke in a standard BL manga. Whenever she has different hair (like the first chapter and when she changes it for roles) I have no problem thinking she's a woman.

2. Oh God, I want to hit Ren and Kyoko with the clue bat. Ren because he knows he loves Kyoko but won't do anything about it! And Kyoko because she's yet to realize she's in love with Ren! I want to strangle both of them.

And now I'm going to be bitter since I'm all caught up. I really need to stop reading unfinished stuff.

Have not read it yet for some odd reason, and i am quite the sucker for shojo. Well, not that much the last years but still. Have heard about it though.

It`s really good. I really recommend it.

1. There's a BL manga that I see updated sometimes, and everytime I see it, I mistake it for Skip-Beat. I think she's more rough and tomboyish than anything else, though.

2. As much as the clue bat is needed, I surprisingly don't mind much. A lot of it is that she's 16, he's in his early twenties, and she hero worships him. Ren is very aware of the NO BAD NO of a relationship with what's technically his underaged subordinate/protegee, and he also knows he's in a position where any displayed interest on his part could be construed as pressure. And Kyoko is so caught up in her hero worship that she doesn't really realize that it may be a front for other feelings.

Are you caught up with scans, or US releases?

I often forget that Kyoko is only 16/17. She always seems older than that (plus it's rare for the story to show her at school).

Caught up with the scans. *checks* Chapter 130 was the last chapter I read.

Yeah. I don't think the handling of the romance makes sense without her age, but with her age considered, it's kinda "yeah, right call there."

Ah. I only follow the US releases. Reino only just showed up for me.

I remember being really surprise when I found out she was only 16. I thought for sure she was at least 18 (if not 19) and I don't think I ever accepted the fact that she's younger than what I originally thought. That's why I get so frustrated with her and Ren, in my mind she's not a high school student but an adult so therefore there should be nothing to stop them from getting together.

Ah, Reino. I never knew what to think about him, lol.

Yeah, her age isn't brought up a lot, but it's very important in their story.

My main thougt on Reino so far is "a second rate Sho, and I'm not overly fond of the original..."
