I saw the new X-men movie tonight
I liked all the Canadian references. For some stupid reason I was expecting them to change it so that Wolverine was now American (it wouldn't surprise me if FOX wanted that though). I was disappointed however to see that the whole Weapon X project was changed from the Canadian government to the the American government. Damnit that was us! We can be evil too you know! We're not nice all the time!
I also liked Gambit, but I thought he wasn't in it enough. It bugs me though that in terms of the movie's current timeline (movies 1-3) Gambit would be a lot older than everyone else. Because I don't like this, I've decided that movie!Gambit ages really slowly so that in the current timeline it wouldn't be odd for him and Rogue to hook up (why yes, I still am a bitter Gambit/Rogue fan and want her to dump Iceman for Gambit).
And as much as I like the movies (especially the first two) I'm really glad that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were never useLet them in the Avengers movie! They're on the team in the Ultimate universe!. Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Rogue and Gambit are my favourite X-men characters and I don't think I could handle it if all of them were butchered (well Gambit wasn't butchered but Rogue was).
What I hate most about the movie is the plot itself. The plot is that Stryker is kidnapping mutants and stealing their powers so that he can create the ultimate weapon (Deadpool). Which isn't that bad of a plot but the entire time I couldn't but think, Magneto and Charles are just allowing this to happen?! I know Magneto is normally a villain but when it comes to mutants he'd probably be the first to act if they were treated in that manner. It get really ridicules when you actually see the island where the captured mutants are kept. The entire thing is metal so it would have been easy for Magneto to walk in andkill all the humans free everyone.
Another thing I didn't like was that they really didn't mention Emma Frost's telepathic abilities. She's one of the strongest mutants in the world with telepathy and it's just not mentioned at all. Even when Charles (he has a small cameo towards the end after Wolverine does all the work) is using telepathy to lead Scott (who in turn was leading the other mutants) out of the place, there's no mention of it especially when it would have made more sense for Charles to contact her. I also thought she was way underused in the movie. It's Emma Frost! She's one of the main female characters in X-men, use her like you should!
I also really wasn't that crazy about Deadpool in this movie. Now I don't really know Deadpool but he just looked weird in the movie. It would have been better if he had worn his normal outfit (the red and black outfit with the mask) instead of looking like a freak. I loved the way he was at the beginning of the movie though where he wouldn't stop talking and he had actual swords as weapons instead of blades that came out of his hands. That version was so cool, the one at the end was just kind of lame.
Of the two special endings after the credits, I got the Wolverine one where he's at a bar in Japan. I see now that the other ending involves Deadpool and I got the Wolverine one which was okay because of his "I'm Canadian... I think." line and because I know that Japan also plays a role in his past (his ex-fiancee who's name is escaping me and Lady Deathstrike) so I liked the tie-in. I am curious to see the Deadpool ending but I'll wait for the DVD.
