It's mostly about this thing called Air Trecks (ATs), which is basically Rollerblades except it has two large wheels instead of four small ones. It's also designed in a way to allow the user to be able to do more and bigger tricks and at times make the person feel as if they were flying. Different AT groups called Storm Riders are spread out across the country and they battle against each other using the city as their playground.
The main characters is Ikki (he'd be the one on the bottom in the first pic) a Jr. High student who's in charge of his own gang. At the beginning of the series his gang defeats another but the gang they defeat is friendly with a local Storm Rider group called the 'Skull Saders', who attack Ikki and really do a number on him.
Three of Ikki's adopted sisters however are also part of Storm Rider group, the legendary 'Sleeping Forest' (Ikki never knew this because his oldest adopted sister, who is retired from ATs, didn't want him to know as she was scared he'd get hurt but she was away at the time). They give Ikki his first ATs and help him get revenge against the 'Skull Saders'. This begins Ikki's desire to fly and his quest to become the next Sky King; he starts his own Storm Riders group and they begin battling other groups.
