Tiger & Bunny
Jul. 6th, 2011 03:53 pmI actually don't watch a lot of anime anymore. I haven't for a few years. Only a few series had sparked my interest and even then I would usually only last a few episodes.
But then I kept hearing about this show called Tiger & Bunny. With a title like that it was going to be either awesome or stupid. Fortunately it's the former.
Tiger & Bunny takes place in the future in a fictional city where some people have developed special powers called NEXT. These people become heroes and are featured on a reality TV show called Hero TV. They gain points by stopping criminals and saving people and their goal is to be named "King of Heroes". The series revolves around Kotetsu (Wild Tiger) and Barnaby (nicked "Bunny") who are reluctantly forced to team up and it involves Barnaby's quest to find the people responsible for his parent's deaths when he was a child.
The best way to describe Kotetsu and Barnaby is old married couple. They bicker all the time. But that's one of my favourite types of pairings so I'm loving the subtext between the two of them. 90% of their arguments could be resolved by some good, rough sex. But knowing them, they would then get into a fight about who got to be on top.
I'm on Episode 10 right now and I really like the way the series blends humour and action. The only downside is that while I adore Kotetsu and Barnaby, it would be nice if some of the other characters were featured a bit more. The rest of the heroes don't really do a whole lot except for the odd episode.
